Mainstream Children's Music Education for the 21st Century
The early years of a child’s life are critical in laying a firm foundation for all future learning. Music is a vital stimulus to physical, cognitive and social development. In addition, early childhood music education is not something that operates autonomously in a culture; rather, it functions powerfully among various cultures. Teaching authentic musical materials from around the world is vital in the early years, helping children understand that human beings are both universally alike and culturally different.

Furthermore, Gardner (1983) suggests that musical intelligence is a separate intelligence. By teaching to increase musical intelligence, teachers help students develop into well-rounded individuals.
In this workshop, 21st Century skills will also be addressed. 21st Century skills include critical thinking, problem-solving, innovation, creativity, collaboration, and communication, not just the 3R’s (reading, ‘riting, ‘rithmetic). Children will have opportunities to share their thoughts, ideas, and feelings through various activities such as music and movement, art, gardening, and pretend play.
